Senior Linux/Unix Engineer
Location: ACT, QLD, VIC, NSW, SA
Contract: 12 months + extensions
About the Opportunity
A federal government organisation at the forefront of digital service delivery is seeking an experienced Senior Linux/Unix Infrastructure Engineers to support and enhance critical national platforms.
This organisation is driving a major uplift in infrastructure capability, leveraging modern technologies to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing systems that support millions of users across Australia.
You will play a key role in maintaining and modernising complex ICT environments, with a strong focus on Unix/Linux systems, automation, and cloud-adjacent infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, automate, and maintain midrange Unix infrastructure environments
- Support the modernisation of private cloud platforms (including IBM Power environments)
- Lead or contribute to infrastructure migrations, including NFS transitions and legacy system retirement
- Perform system patching and upgrades across Solaris environments
- Implement, configure, and maintain infrastructure components across physical, virtual, and network layers
- Ensure systems meet security, performance, and operational requirements
Technical Skills & Experience
- Strong Unix (Solaris) and Linux (RHEL) system administration experience
- Proven experience in virtual machine provisioning
- Solid networking capability (configuration, operations, and troubleshooting)
- Experience working in complex enterprise ICT environments
Desirable:
- Experience with Ansible Automation Platform
- Exposure to Red Hat OpenStack / OpenShift
- Knowledge of IBM Power environments
- Scripting capability (e.g., Bash, Shell, Python)
- Experience with AIX systems
