AI Governance Advisor
Duration: 16/03/2026 to 12/03/2027 + 1 Year Extension

Purpose

The AI Governance Advisor will support the safe, ethical and compliant adoption of artificial intelligence within a large and complex public sector environment. The primary focus of the role is to complete FAIRA assessments for AI-enabled applications and tools and to contribute to the development of an enterprise-wide AI Governance Framework.
FAIRA is the Queensland Government’s foundational AI risk assessment framework used to evaluate AI solutions. The role will also assist in establishing and operating an AI Governance Committee, develop scalable monitoring and reporting arrangements, and create practical toolkits that enable business areas to apply governance requirements consistently.

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinate, author and quality assure FAIRA assessments for AI applications and tools, integrating input from privacy, security and ethics subject matter experts
  • Liaise with solution and platform owners to obtain approvals and ensure appropriate risk treatments are applied
  • Support the design and implementation of an enterprise-wide AI governance framework including policies, standards and operating processes aligned to Queensland and Australian Government requirements
  • Establish scalable monitoring and reporting for AI use covering foundational controls such as model use, cost and benefit, as well as advanced oversight including model performance, drift and incident management
  • Support the establishment and ongoing operation of an AI Governance Committee, including preparation of agendas, papers and decision records
  • Translate governance requirements into practical playbooks, processes, templates and guidance for business and project teams
  • Deliver targeted education and coaching sessions to uplift organisational capability in responsible AI use
  • Conduct supplier due diligence for AI capabilities including assessment of data handling, security attestations, model governance and contractual obligations

  • Completed FAIRA assessments for identified tools, solutions and platforms
  • Governance committee operating materials and decision artefacts
  • AI assurance monitoring and reporting framework with supporting data assets
  • Practical governance artefacts including playbooks, processes and templates
  • Education and coaching materials for business users and delivery teams


Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience establishing and/or operating AI governance in complex organisations, including integration of risk, ethics, assurance and audit readiness
  • Expert knowledge of public sector frameworks and standards applicable to AI, including QGEA and IS18, Information Privacy legislation, Australian Privacy Act, AI Ethics Principles, ISO 42001, ISO 23894 and ISO 38507
  • Proven governance leadership capability including committee facilitation, decision making, stakeholder management and the ability to translate technical risk into business-relevant insights
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience producing executive-level governance artefacts

Desirable

  • Experience with Queensland Government FAIRA assessments or equivalent AI risk frameworks
  • Background in digital, data or analytics program governance
  • Understanding of supplier assurance and contract management for cloud and AI platforms
