Job Description

About the Company
Our client, a Federal Government Department, is seeking experienced Solution Architects for an exciting contract opportunity. This role offers the chance to contribute to high-value ICT initiatives, designing innovative solutions that support critical government services and national outcomes.

About the Role
The Solution Architect will play a critical role in delivering end-to-end solution architectures to meet the emerging needs of a Federal Government Department. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Service Design, technical SMEs, and various architect domains, you will design secure, reliable, and cost-effective solutions using Azure cloud-native services, aligning with departmental and Whole-of-Government strategic directions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and guide solution architectures using Microsoft Azure cloud-native services to deliver modern, stable, and high-performing solutions that meet business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to cost, design, and oversee the implementation of solutions, including infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and non-functional requirements.
  • Provide architectural leadership and expert advice, considering user impacts, workforce skills, business processes, and long-term strategic roadmaps.
  • Develop and deliver architectural principles, patterns, standards, and design artefacts (e.g., high-level designs, detailed designs, option/impact analyses).
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work with Architect domain leads, Enterprise, and Data Architects to validate and enhance solution architecture deliverables.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the supervisor and participate in performance discussions as required.

About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Extensive technical experience delivering enterprise-class IT solution architectures using Microsoft technology stacks, including Microsoft Azure and integrations with cloud and on-premises systems.
  • Proven architectural leadership, with strong communication skills to articulate designs and decisions to diverse stakeholders, including senior management, in writing, in-person, and via video conferencing.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced Agile delivery environment, working with delivery teams and stakeholders to implement complex IT systems while meeting timeframes, quality, and governance standards.
  • Expertise in DevOps and Agile practices, with knowledge of SDLC and cloud-native methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience documenting solution architecture design artefacts.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of Whole-of-Government architectural direction and standards, and experience with Microsoft’s Azure Well-Architected Framework and Cloud Adoption Framework.
  • Must be able to obtain a Baseline security clearance.

The Benefits
This contract role offers a competitive hourly rate (to be proposed by candidates), an initial contract duration until 31 July 2026, with two possible 12-month extensions. Flexible hybrid working arrangements are available (onsite and remote, standard 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week), with a reduced activity period over weekends, public holidays, and Christmas shutdown (subject to pre-approval). This is an excellent opportunity to shape impactful ICT solutions for a key government entity.

To apply, please submit the following for each candidate:

  • Start date (available from Tuesday, 01 July 2025)
  • Hourly rate and service management fee
  • Citizenship status and security clearance details
  • A one-page pitch (max 5000 characters) addressing all essential and desirable criteria
