UX UI Engineer

- Active Baseline Clearance required
Shape the digital experience for a high-impact federal government platform — fully remote, 6-month contract. If you're a UX/UI Engineer who thrives in agile delivery environments and cares deeply about human-centred design, this one's worth a look.
THE ROLE
Our client, a federal government tribunal, is midway through a major digital transformation — replacing legacy systems with a new case management solution built on D365 Customer Service, alongside a brand-new user portal currently in early build phase. They need an experienced UX/UI Engineer to lead design across both workstreams, working within a multidisciplinary agile team to deliver accessible, user-centred experiences at scale. This is a fully remote, 6-month contract role.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Build and maintain reusable front-end components and design patterns for consistency across the platform
- Combine user-centred design with hands-on front-end engineering (building) skills as required
- Lead the end-to-end UI/UX design process within an agile delivery framework
- Translate user research and data insights into wireframes, prototypes, user journeys and process maps
- Champion accessibility standards including WCAG compliance throughout the design and build process
- Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices and standards across the program
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners, SMEs, developers and business users to co-design solutions
- Plan and facilitate user research, usability testing and discovery activities
- Coach and mentor junior UX/UI designers to uplift design maturity across the team
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Minimum 3 years' commercial experience as a UX/UI Designer with a strong portfolio across research, interaction design and interface design
- Proven experience leading UX/UI design in complex digital, enterprise or government environments
- Proven experience in front end development
- Proven ability to code
- Deep knowledge of Human-Centred Design methodology and iterative design practices
- Hands-on experience with Figma and/or Adobe XD
- Solid understanding of responsive design principles and multi-device ensuring responsive, accessible and intuitive user interfaces.
- Experience working within agile software delivery teams
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to present and advocate for design decisions at all levels
- Demonstrated ability to synthesise research data into clear, actionable insights
