Job Description
Role: Microsoft Hybrid Identity Engineer
Location: Hervey Bay, Queensland (ideally onsite but will consider options for the right candidate – must be onsite for cutovers and commissioning)
Duration: Contract – 24 months
Talent Street is looking for a Microsoft Hybrid Identity Engineer for one of our clients in the local government in Hervey Bay QLD.
About the role:
Work as a contractor delivering targeted, project-based modernisation; leading hybrid identity, name‑services and server platform renewals that replace ageing on‑prem systems with secure, cloud‑ready solutions.
This engagement focuses on migrations, re-architecture, disaster recovery, PKI, Azure DNS/DHCP, observability (including open‑source stacks), HCI server migrations and Azure ARC onboarding — all delivered to public‑sector standards.
Consider this role if you enjoy:
- Delivering measurable public value by modernising infrastructure that supports council services used by residents and staff every day.
- Working on a technically broad, high‑visibility programme that spans identity, PKI, DNS/DHCP, Azure DR, HCI and observability.
- Short‑term, high‑impact engagement with clear milestones, autonomy and opportunity to shape long‑term council infrastructure.
- The potential for further work across the council’s digital programme.
Required experience and skills:
- Proven track record delivering hybrid Active Directory and Azure Entra Directory migrations/re-architectures in production environments.
- Hands‑on experience with AD Connect, federation or modern authentication strategies and troubleshooting directory syncs.
- Demonstrated service‑account and privileged credential modernisation, including managed identities.
- Practical PKI experience: CA hierarchy, templates, issuance/renewal automation and revocation practices.
- Experience architecting Azure disaster recovery to run essential services; testing failover and restore procedures.
- Server migration experience on hyperconverged platforms (e.g., VMware (vSphere), Nutanix, HPE SimpliVity, vSAN) and Azure ARC onboarding.
- Extensive experience with Azure DNS and Azure DHCP, zone architecture, split‑DNS and DHCP scope/IPAM design.
- Strong observability skills with Azure Monitor/Log Analytics and open‑source stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, Open Telemetry).
- Scripting and automation: PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM/Bicep, Terraform or equivalent.
- Excellent documentation, procurement support experience and stakeholder management in public‑sector contexts.
- Ability to work autonomously as a contractor while collaborating with council teams and external suppliers.
Desirable experience and skills:
- Microsoft certifications (Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, Microsoft 365 Identity).
- Experience with PAM, IGA, SCIM provisioning and migrating apps to OAuth2/OIDC.
- Prior contracting work within local or state government and familiarity with public‑sector procurement and audit requirements.
