Client: Federal government agency

Contract Duration: 6 months

The Role

This position is responsible for the detailed delivery of a Network Optimisation solution within the Infrastructure Portfolio. The Project Manager will work alongside other Project and IT professionals to deliver to the business outcomes.

 

The project manager will be working with a broad range of data Centre network and compute, cloud, and security technologies, with a wide variety of stakeholders and challenging timeframes and dependencies.

This role will require extensive skills in driving delivery in a complex, constrained, high-availability environment with significant interdependencies and integrations to navigate.

 

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of assigned work packages, projects and programs, under a PRINCE2-based framework and represent allocated projects for all associated project meetings, and in particular:
  • Review and assess the architecture, design, implementation of the current organizational networks and services, recommend and gain approval for improvements to reduce complexity, risk and cost and on agreement, lead the implementation of the Network Optimisation solution throughout the organization.
  • Manage scope in line with the Project and Program Plans and approved Designs
  • Manage project documentation, in accordance with agency requirements
  • Develop and manage the IT project schedule and engage relevant parties across the organization
  • Co-ordinate project resources to deliver work packages and products.
  • Coordinate the delivery of services and manage Design, Build, Testing, Transition to Operations (including Go Live Documentation, where appropriate), Technology Change Management, Implementation and Post Implementation Review, as required
  • Manage project and work-package level risks, issues, dependencies, changes and quality
  • Work closely with portfolio, program managers and key stakeholders to ensure they are engaged and informed
  • Act as main point of contact with internal and external stakeholders for the projects and work packages assigned
  • Support financial tracking and reporting for the project including using the EPMO-endorsed project tracking tools
  • Manage procurements of hardware, software and services as required for projects, including ensuring appropriate resourcing and funding is available for transition and operation.
  • As and where necessary, organise and manage external IT services to complete the assigned projects.
  • Facilitate knowledge capture and transfer as a consistent way-of-working.
  • Utilise methods from Agile, ITIL and ADKAR daily
  • Facilitate the onboarding of resources as appropriate etc.

 

Skills & Knowledge

 

Mandatory

Expertise in Modern Infrastructure Technologies

  • Broad understanding of Data Centre, Cloud (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), Networking, Unified Communications, and Cybersecurity technologies.
  • Proven experience in hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud) and network transformation initiatives.

Advanced Network Architecture and Security Knowledge

  • Deep capability in network design, segmentation, and optimisation.
  • High levels of expertise in zero trust architecture, firewalling, SD-WAN, VPN, load balancing, and network observability.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, CIS).

Strategic Simplification and Cost Optimisation

  • Demonstrated ability to identify duplication and inefficiencies and deliver organisation-wide simplification and cost-reduction programs.
  • Experience in rationalising legacy systems, consolidating vendors, and driving total cost of ownership (TCO) improvements.

Delivery Leadership and Governance

  • Strong understanding of project and program delivery frameworks including PRINCE2, Agile, SAFe, and ITIL.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, including internal staff and external partners, to deliver large-scale transformation programs.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Proven ability to engage stakeholders, translate technical complexity into business value, and influence decision-making.
  • Strong customer-centric mindset, with a focus on delivering measurable outcomes aligned to business needs.

Tooling and Enterprise Systems Familiarity

  • Proficient in Microsoft Project, Jira and enterprise architecture.

Team Collaboration and Cultural Fit

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to team practices, foster collaboration, and contribute to a positive and high-performing culture.

 

Desirable

  • Proven experience implementing site relocations, including to new data centres
  • Certifications such as Cisco CCIE, TOGAF, or CISSP, AWS/Azure Solutions Architect.
  • Familiarity with cost modelling.
  • Working with Office365 including SharePoint, Teams and collaboration tools such as Gitlab
  • Familiarity with Federal Government processes – including Procurement, Finance and Enterprise Project Management Office.
