Role: Principal DevOps Engineer EL2

Client: Federal Government Agency

Locations: ACT, NSW, QLD, SA, VIC

Duration: 12 months with potential 12 months extension

Working arrangements: Hybrid (3 days minimum working from office)

Citizenship Requirement: Australian

Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1)

Role Purpose

The Principal DevOps Engineer (EL2) operates under broad direction to lead highly complex initiatives that drive quality outcomes. This position requires a high level of autonomy and expertise, engaging in advanced problem-solving and issue management within the organization’s core functions. The role will involve making strategic decisions and providing high-level advice and support to senior leadership.

The Principal DevOps Engineer will collaborate closely with key business stakeholders and the local full-stack team to support and enhance project development within the agency. The role is also responsible for managing critical internal and external stakeholder relationships, representing, and negotiating on behalf of the agency to promote the agency’s objectives across various forums.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Leading the design, development, deployment, and support of the Agency’s Cloud & Data Infrastructure.
  • Prioritizing and managing the work queue to ensure timely delivery of key initiatives.
  • Ensuring that all solutions adhere to integration best practices.
  • Collaborating with business stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Playing a key leadership role in project teams, utilising an agile development framework.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to define project requirements, set priorities, and deliver results.

 

Mandatory Criteria

  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure and services, with proven ability to design, implement, and manage scalable cloud solutions.
  • Develop and Customise SAS Visual Investigator data models, workflows, entities and rules to support investigative case management.
  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform for automating infrastructure provisioning and management. Build and optimize ETL pipelines to ingest structured / unstructured data into the VI platform.
  • Integrate external data sources and API's with SAS VI for entity resolution, alert generation and case enrichment. Implement CI/CD pipelines and version control for SAS Projects and configuration files.
  • Ability to write and maintain moderately complex code across multiple programming languages, including Python, JavaScript, and Golang.
  • In-depth experience with containerization, cluster deployment, and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, ensuring efficient application delivery and management.

 

Weighted Criteria

  • Experience with database deployment and administration, particularly with Postgres and MySQL, for efficient data management and performance optimization.
  • Proficiency in administering Azure infrastructure, expanding multi-cloud capabilities alongside
  • AWS.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot system health, logs and performance using SAS tools.
  • Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault for securing sensitive data and managing secrets across cloud infrastructure.
