Senior Communications Officer

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Communications Officer to join the team at the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ). As the lead agency in the Communities and Justice Portfolio, DCJ aims to achieve a safe, just, and inclusive New South Wales (NSW) by operating an effective legal system, increasing access to social and affordable housing, protecting children and families, addressing domestic and family violence, promoting public safety, reducing reoffending, and supporting community harmony and social cohesion.

Responsibilities

  • Design and support the delivery of creative, effective, and engaging communications across multiple channels to support project strategies, initiatives, and developments.
  • Implement and coordinate multifaceted communications, and communicate key messages relating to initiatives, organisational change, and benefits.
  • Promote and maintain a framework for managing internal communication channels and related collateral to ensure effective, consistent, and coordinated messaging across a diverse stakeholder group.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and dissemination of multi-channel communication content including digital, print, web content, publications, training, and support materials.
  • Undertake analysis and review of communications, and track and evaluate the impacts and outcomes to determine specific initiatives' outcomes and inform future planning and activity.
  • Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation, and issues management.
  • Research trends and issues to identify target audiences and best practice strategies for communications development.
  • Identify issues, undertake research and analysis, and provide recommendations, solutions, and advice to manage issues of strategic importance and inform new approaches to stakeholder engagement and communications.

Qualifications

  • Act independently in determining work priorities.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks and demands, including matters with critical turnaround times.
  • Make day-to-day decisions and provide guidance on appropriate courses of action to address issues.
  • Exercise discretion in determining the approach to work undertaken and be responsible for interpretation and recommendations made.
  • Coordinate projects undertaken and provide guidance on organizational aspects of work, and monitor work output.
  • Ideally has knowledge and/or experience working in Courts and Tribunals.

Day-to-day

The Senior Communications Officer will work on the Industrial Court Project, supported by the Change and Engagement Team. The role will report into the Manager, Change and Engagement and will be responsible for overseeing all content and communications to achieve accessible, effective, and consistent communication.
