Job Description

THE ROLE

Our client, a Queensland state government department, is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to join on a contract basis through to June 2027. Based in Brisbane CBD, this role sits within a large Infrastructure Services Division. You will play a central role in driving documentation quality across a significant Business Transformation Program spanning governance, asset management, financial oversight, and portfolio delivery.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Drive adherence to quality principles and processes for technical documentation across the Program
• Develop, maintain, and continuously improve governance, planning, prioritisation, and assurance documentation aligned to portfolio, program, and project management requirements
• Prepare and maintain financial management documentation, reporting tools, and user guidance, translating complex budgeting and financial control requirements into accessible resources
• Design and manage templates, guidance materials, process maps, checklists, and knowledge resources supporting consistent application of frameworks and best-practice delivery standards
• Compile reports related to divisional procedures, ensuring outputs are produced within prescribed frameworks and standards
• Assist in the preparation of executive briefing papers on business analysis and improvement activities
• Develop, edit, write, and review high-quality technical documentation, translating complex technical concepts into materials suitable for diverse stakeholder audiences
• Consult and collaborate with subject matter experts to clarify technical concepts and determine documentation requirements
• Produce stakeholder communication, training, and change management materials supporting the implementation and adoption of new frameworks and processes
• Conduct quality assurance reviews of project and program documentation, maintaining accurate version-controlled repositories
• Increase divisional awareness of the document hierarchy and establish clear document interfaces to ensure ongoing accuracy
• Participate in working groups and meetings to drive continuous improvement of documentation quality

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Extensive technical writing skills with strong comprehension and translation ability
• Demonstrated experience writing and editing high-level technical documentation to a publishable standard
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including advanced editing for non-specialist audiences
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across key stakeholder groups
• Sound analytical and conceptual skills, including an understanding of publication development principles
• Proven ability to manage workload priorities, meet tight deadlines, and consistently deliver quality outputs

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

• Tertiary qualification in English Language, Technology, Engineering, or a relevant discipline
• Certification in PRINCE2, Agile, or other recognised project management methodologies
• Prior experience working within a government portfolio or program management environment
