An opportunity exists for a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to join a high-performing federal government technology team responsible for critical national systems.

This role sits within a central infrastructure function and plays a key part in managing and enhancing a mature AWS cloud environment supporting large-scale, business-critical operations. You’ll contribute to the reliability, security and scalability of cloud platforms that underpin significant operational events and day-to-day enterprise services.

The Role

Reporting to the Platform Lead (Hosting Platforms), you will work closely with infrastructure, architecture and engineering teams to manage and optimise AWS cloud services across hybrid and on-prem environments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and optimising the AWS Landing Zone, including provisioning, cost management, compliance and governance

  • Designing, developing, implementing and testing infrastructure solutions aligned to business requirements

  • Implementing and enforcing platform best practices to ensure reliability, scalability and performance

  • Managing and enhancing AWS security controls (IAM, encryption, key management, security groups)

  • Monitoring and maintaining platform health using CloudWatch, CloudTrail and AWS Config

  • Troubleshooting complex infrastructure and application issues

  • Supporting automation and Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives

  • Maintaining high-quality technical documentation

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver secure and scalable cloud services

You may also contribute to Azure-based workloads and selected on-prem infrastructure components.

Essential Experience

  • Extensive experience in AWS and Azure cloud environments within hybrid and on-prem settings

  • Strong knowledge of AWS services including EC2, S3, Lambda, VPC, Route 53, Direct Connect, VPN and SCP

  • Demonstrated experience implementing and managing AWS security controls (IAM policies, encryption, key management)

  • Experience using CloudWatch, CloudTrail and AWS Config for monitoring and compliance

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a focus on performance, cost optimisation and security

  • Understanding of risk management principles, including patch and infrastructure management

  • Ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships across technical and business teams

Desirable Experience

  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK)

  • CI/CD pipeline development and automation

  • Knowledge of ITIL and TOGAF frameworks

  • Familiarity with Commonwealth security frameworks (PSPF, ISM)

  • Relevant AWS certifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale ICT environments

If you are a senior cloud engineer who thrives in secure, high-availability environments and enjoys improving cloud maturity within complex enterprise settings, we encourage you to apply.
