Role: Data Governance Analyst
Locations: Melbourne
Duration: 6 months

Talent Street is looking for a Data Governance Analyst for one of our large Victorian State government clients.

Role purpose:

The Data Governance Analyst is responsible for assisting in the implementation of data governance policies to ensure data accuracy, security, and integrity. They conduct data quality assessments, to establish data standards, determine data sensitivity levels and maintain data documentation. Additionally, they monitor and resolve data governance issues and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations. 


Key accountabilities:

The role is accountable for the following:

 

  • Manage the variables within scripts to import or export data;
  • Copy and format data in Excel files;
  • Interpret data profiling output to describe data (e.g. identify fields with no content, default content, etc.);
  • Identify data and classify according to a set of classification standards, providing clear justification for classifications, if ambiguity exists;
  • Run bulk import and export scripts and validate data.
  • Assist senior Data Governance Specialists in Data Assessments (profiling, classification, lineage, custodianship), Data Sensitivity Validation, Data Quality Issues Management
  • Collaborate with Data engineers, Architects, Business Analysts and Project Managers to ensure data governance activities are aligned to the desired business outcomes.
  • Create and maintain appropriate documentation associated with the requirement.
  • Articulate and obtain approval of key solution decisions 
  • Attend Agile ceremonies as required to maintain project communication and alignment.
  • Identify and communicate risks and issues as they are identified.

 

Key responsibilities:

Skills, knowledge, and experience required:

  • Experience profiling and analysing data;
  • Ability to scan and identify patterns and exceptions in large record sets.
  • Ability to manipulate data in Excel (sort, filter, manage conditional formatting, etc);
  • Ability to comprehend the components of scripts and identify and replace variables;
  • Ability to describe data in clear plain-English terms.
  • Ability to sample and check for variation between 2 data sources.
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience with Data Governance, data management tools and technologies in a similar government organization or similarly regulated organization is essential.
  • Technical proficiency in data management tools and technologies, such as SQL, data warehousing, data governance platforms, Azure Data Factory, Snowflake will be well regarded.
  • Knowledge and Experience in data governance principals frameworks and data quality management and data privacy regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve data related issues.

This role requires the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in computer science, information technology, data management or related field.
  • Certifications in Data Governance and Data Management related technologies
